You may have heard a lot of people talking about blogging for beginners and how you can start your own business with blogging but maybe you are not quite sure how to get started. Maybe you have questions like how to start a blog and you may be looking for some type of training on blogging for beginners.
I was once in the same place where I was looking for information on how to start a blog and felt overwhelmed with all of the information out there. I wanted to find something simple and straight to the point that talked about blogging for beginners.
So I layed out a few basic steps about blogging for beginners and easy instructions and resources to use on how to start a blog.
When I started my blog a few years ago, I wanted to create an additional source of income and not have to depend on living paycheck to paycheck.
I initially started my blog working a full time job in the beginning, I did not have enough time to really focus on my blog the way I really wanted to. The last few years I started making money online and working for myself and that is when I started to learn more about blogging.
Going back several years, I worked in the corporate world doing business to business sales. I really enjoyed the concept of making commissions because you can create your own income and I loved helping other businesses with tools and services to make their business more efficient.
Unfortunately, I ran into so many issues with discrimination (especially due to my health), and I realized that working in the corporate world just did not work for me. I needed my own schedule and I knew that what I did for another company I could do for myself by building my own business or freelancing and working for myself.
When I discovered the power of blogging and how so many people were blogging about their passions and how they were making a living online, I knew that it was the best path for me.
So in this post today, I want to show you how to start a blog and how I got started with blogging and hopefully if you have a yearning for making an extra income online and considered blogging, I hope this blog post about blogging for beginners is helpful for you.

First of all, I want to briefly describe what blogging is for those who are not quite familiar with it. A blog is basically a web log or is considered to be an online journal where you can talk about your business, your hobbies, or your special interests etc. It’s basically a great way to communicate informally with your audience about whatever niche you are writing about.
It is very easy to start a blog and there are free ways to start a blog like on Blogger or WordPress.com. I would only consider using free sites like those with no paid subscription if blogging is more of a hobby for you because there are a lot of limitations. However, if you are serious about blogging and plan on building a business with your blog, I would recommend setting up your blog with WordPress.org and getting it set up with a hosting account. Having your blog hosted enables you to have more control, features, and options.
I use Siteground as my hosting provider and I find it to be a great provider. Siteground offers great support and you can get started for just as little as $3.95/month. You can sign up here.
So I am going to go through the basics of how to get started to creating your own blog.
1. Pick a Niche
It is really important that you choose a niche that you feel you have knowledge and passion in. You can always do your own personal research and look up some of the topics that you are interested in and make sure that it is a profitable niche. What is it that you like talking about and can write about nonstop? You also want to determine who is your target market and what type of value can you give them that will help resolve a problem they may have.
2. Register Domain
So the next thing you need to do is register your domain name for your blog. This will be your web address. You can click here to check domain availability and you can also register there for your domain name also.
3.Get Set Up With Hosting
You can consider hosting to be more like a place that you can use that supports your website and it is like you are renting a space online for your blog.
As mentioned, I personally use Siteground as my hosting provider. They have impressive loading speeds so websites tend to load faster. They provide great security and really great customer support that is available 24/7. You can also take advantage of unlimited email accounts and auto daily backups among many other additional options. It is normally $11.95/month but you can now take advantage of the service for only $3.95/month.
4. Install WordPress
It may sound intimidating and very technical with this next step but it is not as difficult as it sounds. There is a step by step free training that will teach you everything you need to know to get WordPress installed with your hosting and how to set up everything.
This training is completely for free and I highly recommend it. It will teach you everything from installing WordPress, personalizing your settings, setting up your theme, creating your first post and so much more. You can click here for the free training.
5. Create Logo/Graphic Designs & Images
If you are looking for affordable ways to create your logos and graphics, here are a few options including sites where you can get free stock images:
- Fiverr
- 99Designs
- Canva
- PicMonkey
- Pexels
- Unsplash
- Pixabay
So there you have it, the first few basic steps to getting started. Once you go through the basic steps and the free training, the next step is getting traffic to your website as well as monetizing your site.
