1. Your Email List
Your email list is one of the most important aspects of your business and email marketing campaign. You want to make sure that you keep your list active and updated. Your email analytics will help you determine the different metrics associated with your email list in order to determine who is engaging with your content and who is not etc.
2. Your Subject Line
Your subject line can help determine your open message rate. In order to have a successful open rate with your emails, it is important to have a good subject line. You can determine if you have a good subject line by performing test emails to your audience. Your email marketing provider should provide you with the tools and software to help you determine the best subject line.
3. Your Name & Email
You want to make sure that your name and email address is in the sender field of your email. You can save the settings in your email marketing tool to make sure your name and email address appear in the sender field correctly.
Your sender settings are important so that your subscribers recognize the email is coming from you. It is also a good idea to use a business email that matches the domain of the company that you are sending from vs. a free Gmail or Yahoo email. Your business email allows you to look more professional. Most email marketing providers suggest that you use an email associated with your domain vs. a free email address to not look spammy.
4. Track Your Results
As mentioned, with the tracking software provided by your email provider, you can track the stats of your emails. Having a tracking tool allows you to determine your open rate and who may have or have not clicked on a link etc. This information with tracking can help you determine what works and what does not.
Overall, having a way to track analytics is so important when running your email marketing campaigns.
5. Provide An Option To Unsubscribe
The CAN-SPAM Act requires that all email messages provide clear directions on how to opt-out from subsequent mailings. By law, it is very important that you provide a way for your subscribers to unsubscribe to your email list no matter the reason why. Your email provider should by default in most cases provide an option included with your email marketing campaigns.
At the end of the day, you would rather want to send content to subscribers that want to hear from you. By eliminating people that no longer want to receive your emails, this, in the long run, will save you money from your subscription with your provider.
6. Verify Your Images Are Referenced Correctly
In order to avoid your images from appearing broken in your emails, you want to make sure they are referenced correctly.
To ensure the image is referenced correctly it must appear as, img src=”http://www.yourdomain.com….” rather than, img src=”/images/picture.jpg”.
Alt tags are another important part of your images. The new security features on almost every email client these days disable images automatically. Having alt tags in place allow your reader to identify the image and determine if it is safe to enable.
7. Run Test Campaigns
Testing is a very important aspect of an email marketing campaign in order to determine if your campaign will be successful or not.
Overall, it is important that you follow these guidelines in order to ensure potential success with your email marketing campaign.
After successfully testing your campaigns, gather your analytics and record and adjust accordingly to use for your next email marketing campaign.
Overall, with these guidelines mentioned, this will help ensure that you have an effective email marketing strategies.
