How Do You Perceive Yourself?

The Importance Of Self Reflection

It is important to have a deep understanding of who you truly believe that you are on a psychological level. How we see ourselves has a direct impact on our perception of the world, how we interact with others, as well as the decisions and actions we take just to name a few. These type of perceptions can have a direct impact on our goals and all areas in our life.

Self reflecting is a great way to really know the inner you in order to understand why you perceive things the way you do and what is keeping you from your goals on a deep level.

Taking the time to do the inner or shadow work can help create healing  which will most likely be a way to increase chances of success.

Knowing your true self involves a willingness to do the activities to help you reach your full potential. It also helps to build a stong foundation in order to help you identify your why and uncovering your true purpose.

Below are a few questions to consider when doing the inner/shadow work:

What are your values?
How much do you care about yourself to improve to achieve and maintain success based on these values?
What have you learned so far about yourself, goals, health, and success?
What keeps you up at night?

What is the reason why you want to achieve your goals? (people, status, health, income etc.)

For example, if we see ourselves in a positive light, as mentioned then we will most likely have more success and be more goal oriented.

If we have a negative perception of ourselves, we will tend to have low self esteem and our thoughts and actions will reflect that which will result in negative impacts in our life.

A person with high self esteem that achieves goals will most likely hold a positive mental image of seeing themselves achieve something. It would not even matter if they may not know something as they would not allow that to be a barrier. They may seek out knowledge or leverage the people they know to seek help or to steer them in the right direction in order to achieve their goals.

On the other hand, a person with low self esteem that never accomplishes anything most likely holds a negative perception about themselves. They may hold negative mental images of failure in everything they do. If there is something that they do not know how to do, they tend to not attempt to achieve a goal and use their current lack of knowledge as a barrier so they just quit before they even start.

As you can see, the negative mindset will always keep you in captivity in your current circumstances. The person who focuses on pessimistic thoughts could be from past experiences or from negative people around them. The sad part is that in most cases, it is not even true yet the pessimist may believe so.

You can clearly see the mindsets of both the optimistic and pessimistic personalities and how each operates differently when it comes to achieving goals etc.

The best way to shift from a pessimistic mindset to an optimistic mindset is to be aware of the two and have a full understanding of them.
