When it comes to procrastination, it can almost always hinder us when it comes to our goals. Procrastination can take place in all areas of our lives. It can be influenced by distractions, negativity, and so much more.
The question to consider is why do we procrastinate and to understand the psychology behind procrastination. Why do we avoid things that we know we should be doing?
Procrastination is a habitual pattern that you may have developed over time that may have become a mental program that you have mentally adapted in certain areas of your life. Just like any computer program, you can reprogram your mind to change the way you think about something that you are procrastinating about in order to overcome it.
Once you understand who you are at your core and that procrastination is not really who you are but a habit that you have developed over time, you can then detach from the negative emotions that you may feel behind the damage of procrastination.
Not a lot of people will admit it, but most people procrastinate which is very common. I know for me it has personally been a life long battle and a never ending journey. I have overcame a lot but I am still working towards progression and my struggles helps me to share some of the things that I have done and am doing to help with my personal struggles with procrastination with certain areas of my life. I fight battles daily to fight off the spirit of procrastination that has seemed to have been wearing me down for so many years in certain areas of my life.
There are many types of procrastinators and deep core reasons behind the reason why a person may be a certain kind of procrastinator.
Are you the type of person that waits until the last minute to get something done? Or do you push a project back for a prolonged period of time? Or maybe you wait to achieve a goal because you are waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect situation as a way of procrastination?
For example, if you are procrastinating about starting your online business because you are waiting until you have all of the right knowledge and skillset, or the right equipment etc., then you may witness a lot of time being wasted. For example, years may go by and nothing never happens. Even if your reasoning why you do not start are valid, are there still things you can do in the meantime or things for preparation vs. nothing at all?
"Procrastination is like a credit card, it's a lot of fun until you get the bill."
The dangers of this example is that if you can relate to this, a person could waste years of their life stagnating their goals due to procrastination. In result, you block the potential things that you can do to works towards your goals. It is not about focusing on what you can’t do and what you do not have to get started, but what can you do instead. There is always something you can do towards your goals so do not allow waiting for the perfection to occur to cause your delay towards your goals.
